Webinar Description:
The goal of the presentation is to help the participants feel more confident in engaging with students who self-harm. Participants will hopefully walk away with a greater ability to identify and support these students, while managing their own anxiety due to feeling more empowered. By knowing how to engage self-harming students in school, these students will feel more able to seek out adult support if needed while in school, which will create a safer school environment.
This session will utilize tools rooted in therapeutic intervention, and apply those tools to academics and a school environment. The presenter has a background in social work (LCSW), and will create a training rooted in NASW principles.
Speaker Bio:
Salena Binnig is a licensed clinical social worker who has been working for Services for Teens-At Risk (STAR) Clinic since 2019. Prior to joining the team at STAR, Salena obtained both her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and Sociology and Master of Social Work degree from the University of Pittsburgh. Since starting at the STAR Clinic, Salena has taken on a leadership role within the COSTAR Program, an intensive outpatient program which utilizes CBT and DBT to treat undergraduate students who struggle with severe depression, anxiety, and who are at-risk of suicide. Her work consists of completing clinical assessments, maintaining a caseload of patients, managing the COSTAR IOP groups, training graduate interns, and participating in outreach to local schools and community providers. In her free time, she enjoys biking, reading, and chasing her 2-year-old in every setting possible.

Anxiety in the Classroom: Helping Students Cope, Learn, and Thrive, featuring Dr. Daniel Stone, Director of Clinical Health Innovation, InStride Health.

This session helps educators recognize how anxiety and OCD affect learning and behavior, and equips them with practical, evidence-based strategies to reduce avoidance and build resilience. Participants will learn key features of anxiety and OCD, the gold standard treatments, and how collaboration with families and providers creates consistent supports that enhance student confidence and engagement.
This session also enhances professional skills by deepening understanding of how anxiety and OCD impact student functioning and engagement. Participants gain practical tools for identifying symptoms, responding effectively in the classroom, and integrating evidence-based strategies through collaboration with families and providers to promote emotional wellness and academic success.
Speaker Bio:

Dr. Daniel Stone is a licensed psychologist who specializes in the treatment of childhood anxiety disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), and related disorders. Throughout his training and career, Dr. Stone has focused on providing evidence-based assessment and treatment to children, families, and young adults. He earned a BA in psychology at the University of Massachusetts, Boston, and a doctorate in counseling psychology at Northeastern University. Dr. Stone completed his clinical internship in behavioral psychology at Kennedy Krieger Institute and Johns Hopkins University, and his postdoctoral fellowship in behavioral psychology and neuropsychology at McLean Hospital and Harvard Medical School. During that time he provided intensive exposure-based treatment to children with anxiety and related disorders.
Dr. Stone was an Instructor of Psychology in the Department of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and a psychologist at the McLean Anxiety Mastery Program, where he conducted research and development on electronic therapy interventions, such as telehealth and virtual reality therapies. As Director of Clinical Health Innovation at InStride, Dr. Stone combines his knowledge of psychological assessment and intervention with his passion for science and technology to drive forward the development and implementation of new therapeutic techniques to combat the pediatric mental health crisis.
