The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board aims to be a leader in the prevention of underage and dangerous drinking. The PLCB Bureau of Alcohol Education  partners with schools, community groups, licensees and others in this mission. The Pennsylvania Network for Student Assistance Services (PNSAS) represents three State Department's, the Department of Human Services, Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs, and Department of Education.  PNSAS includes many commited professionals, such as regoinal corrdinators, mental health agencies, drug and alcohol agencies, behavioral helath agencies, agency liaisons, trainers, and student assitance teams across the state.  for over 30 years, PNSAS has provided leadership and technical assitance in developing safe and drug free-environments and mental health wellness in schools and commnities across the Commonwealth.  It has assisted in removing barriers to learning and enhancing student academic achievement through collaborative prevention, intervention, and post-intervention services.  The Pennsylvania Office of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (OMHSAS) at DHS in Harrisburg was awarded a five-year Garrett Lee Smith Grant from SAMHSA in September 2014.  this "Suicide Prevention in Schools and Colleges Initiative" provides gatekeeper training, suicide rish management training, standardized screening, and trainin in empirically supported treatments to schools, community colleges, and universities thorughout the Commonwealth.  the project aims to raise awareness, increase identification of an at-risk youth, facilitate referrals to treatment, and improve treatment outcomes.  To date this project implementing youth suicide prevention activites in approximately 50% of countines in Pennsylvania.
